What celebrities have you met?
I've had the opportunity to meet some extraordinary people over the years as a jet charter pilot. Jay Leno is a good tipper and all business. Reese Witherspoon is even more beautiful in person than on film, as are her children. Kelly Clarkson is bubbly, happy and carefree. Patric Dempsey is courteous and inquisitive. Mary J. Blige is reserved and quiet. I'll share more in a moment.
My wife calls me a professional vacationer. I guess, in a way, I am.
Even with all the celebrities I've flown though, the only time I'd ever been nervous was when I had to pick up Sir Paul McCartney and his girlfriend in Sedona, AZ. I'd flown alot of multi-millionaires over the years, but never a billionaire or someone who had been knighted by a Queen. Most of my passengers are known nationally, but Sir Paul was in a different league altogether.
Crazy thoughts crossed my mind as we taxied for takeoff. Is an engine going to fail. Is a dear going to run across the runway at the worst possible moment? Is the airplane going to do what it's supposed to? It had thousands of times before. Why should this be any different? Why the hell am I even thinking these thoughts?
I don't know. Maybe I just wanted to avoid the notoriety of being the guy who "bought it" with the biggest name in music history. I wanted the flight to be over before it had begun.
I envisioned the aftermath of such an occurrence; scores of foreign and domestic tourists coming to Sedona every year to pay homage to McCartney and his memory. A monument erected where he died. Hotel expansions, gift shops, etc... No thanks! The flight was uneventful.
I once asked Merv Griffin what his secret was to a long and happy life. He replied with a big smile and said, "Never looking back, always looking forward." I've tried to apply that in my own life.
George Lopez is courteous. Seal is humble. Charles Barkley is even bigger that I thought. Justin Timberlake, in his spare time, likes to play golf. Peter Coors, of Coors beer fame, is distinguished. Larry King likes baseball and shows his love to his children even through their tears.
Once, when I moved to open the door for Mr. King and his guests after a landing, I heard him say to no one in particular "Once again, science and technology triumph!" A true journalist.
I had the pleasure of flying Carol Shelby, of Ford Mustang and Cobra fame, in his own plane, for years. A living legend and he's still going strong in his mid eighties. Often wearing either a cowboy hat or a Ford baseball cap, a new heart and an organ donation from his son haven't slowed him down. On more than one occasion, I thought a $4,000 investment in a portable defibrillator was worthy of consideration, given his age and all. Then, it occurred to me. His heart is probably younger than my own! Why bother.
Once, while flying Shelby, his wife, and Wolfgang Puck to Pontiac, Michigan, Wolfgang came up to the cockpit and offered us some of his homemade fare. To say that "I'd arrived" would be an understatement. The food was exquisite. But, more importantly, Wolfgangs' hospitality and humility were extraordinary. That was a memorable flight for another reason though. The weather in Pontiac was miserable with heavy snow, low clouds, night landing conditions, and questionable results that I could expect from a contaminated runway that was shorter than I Iiked.
It was a seminal moment in my career. Do I continue on or do I divert to Detroit and inconvenience my passengers. The greater inconvenience would be if we arrived in Pontiac getting out of a snow sled with wings. I had made my decision. We diverted to Detroit.

What is your favorite album by Paul McCartney and Wings?
I don't really want to hear any Beatles' stuff please, but I would like to know what your favorite Paul McCartney AND WINGS album is. Mine right now is Venus and Mars. I believe that their 1975-1976 lineup was the best. Jimmy McCulloch and Joe English were great additions to the band. Anyone else with me?
Some of you people have never heard real music. And, apparently, somebody does, because I do. Thus, it's impossible to say that nobody listens to Wings. I believe millions of others will back me up on this.

By the way, you idiot, I don't watch American Idol. I don't know what made you think that just because I like Paul McCartney, I like American Idol.
I love Ram too! Ahh, such wonderful music. I love how the reprise has snippets of "Big Barn Bed", another favorite of mine.
Well, if I have to choose my favorites they would be:
Ram (although technically not Wings, but since Denny played on the album I will include it)
Red Rose Speedway (I llloooovvvvveeee 'Little Lamb Dragonfly')
Band on the Run (a classic, which never fails to suprise me when I listen to it again.)
Venus and Mars (I think a very under-rated album. I don't know if it was popular when it came out, I wasn't alive. But I don't hear much about it, even though it's got some amazing tracks!! One of my all time favorite Paul albums.)
I think those four are my favorites. But then, they are the ones I've listened to the most. Everything Paul does is solid. I love the Wings era as well!! I'm glad there are other people out there who still appreciate good music.
