Ideas for My Menu Covers and Menu Sleeves
A lot of people sort of go into dead-lock when it comes time to design their menu covers or come up with different designs. I think that when stuff like this happens, as annoying as it can be, there is always a way to "jog" your creativity so to speak. For example, reading an article such as this or visiting websites to find ideas that other people have used is a great way to really get the ball rolling. So here, I am going to give you a few examples of various restaurants and some design ideas that you could use for not only your menu sleeves, but for your genuine leather check covers as well. Use the ones you want, throw out the ones you don't, and customize the ones you do want with your own ideas!
- Bar/Pub: For this type of "restaurant" you should really think about placing your food items on a double sided clear menu cover. This is great because it's still going to keep the menus safe from spillage, but it's going to cost less because you are doing the clear option. Also, this is very simple, and so is the food you assumingly have available - probably mostly finger foods. As for the bar or drink menu you could think about getting a two sided (side by side) thin menu cover with a decorative solid colored front. You can either place the logo of your bar or pub, or you could go with something super simple such as a cocktail martini glass with an olive. You could even do a theme of some sort. Like if you have an Irish bar or pub, you could consider going with old faithful - green menus!
- Steakhouse: This is a great opportunity for you to start getting a little fancier with your menu covers depending on your theme and your prices. Most steakhouses have $20+ steaks on the menu, so for something like menu sleeves you could add a 3-7 page menu, each with its own items, header texts and even pictures if you so choose. Full-blown color photographs are always a plus because it really gets people's attention and makes them hungry for what you have on the menu. Again, you can do with clear, or you can go with a leather menu cover. Something cool if its like an "Australian Steakhouse (not naming names) would be a brown leather menu will some extra added frills such as rawhide leather strips, or even adding leather and wood to the front of the menu.
- Gourmet/Upscale: When I make a reservation at a place with a name like Le' Mont Restaurant, I automatically know that just by the name, the items on their menu and their photos that this is going to be a more upscale restaurant. Hence, I would know that its white table clothes, white napkins, candles with candleholders and an amazing view that everyone won't stop talking about. I'll also expect a nice menu presentation as well. I'm not saying you have to serve the menu on a silver platter (that's just odd), but you should definitely spring for a nice leather back restaurant cover, with your logo or restaurant name on the front. This is a perfect example, of a menu that matches and contracts the type of restaurant as well as the food they serve.
You can also go completely nuts if you want to. Maybe you have a Jamaican or Caribbean restaurant that serves things like Jerk Chicken, Salmon-Crab Cakes: jalapeno remoulade, and Reggae Sunsplash as one of your specialty drinks. If you have a regular black menu, this is going to look like it doesn't fit the design or overall theme of the restaurant. But if you have something like a menu cover that has really vivid colors that are associated with Jamaican or Caribbean style food like yellows, reds, oranges and greens, you could definitely pull this off and do it with some real style. So in the end, there is a right way and a wrong way to do your menu sleeves. Try to use common sense. If you don't have a sense of style or still can't figure out how in the world to come up with the right colors or designs, get someone else to do it for you. There are restaurant menu planners out there that would be more than happy to help you out.
By the way, you also need to think of one more thing for your restaurant - don't freak out yet, this is an easy one! Genuine leather check covers are an element that ALL restaurants, pubs and bars should have. In fact, I don't think I've been to a restaurant yet that hasn't had one of these. Most of these ARE indeed genuine leather, but it's the front option in which you can start making (or not) choices. You can place your logo, restaurant name, gold outline, silver outline. Or you could forgo the colors completely and just get black on black stitching which makes a very light indentation on your check cover so you see it's there, but it's not screaming LOOK AT ME! Hopefully this will give you a few ideas to work with. If worst comes to worst go to a few restaurants that serve the same style food as yours and see what their ideas were for their restaurant cover and genuine leather check covers. Don't copy them though! Come up with your own ideas!

Will a seamstress be able to fix this?
My cat went haywire in my closet and totally ripped my favorite coat. A lot of the threads are pulled, but thankfully it's only on one sleeve so I'm hoping I can salvage it. Does anyone know if a seamstress will be able to fix this? See picture: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/SMinerva21/CIMG0612.jpg
Also, how much would something like that cost to repair?
Wow a houndstooth coat with the threads pulled. you can try to see if a seamstress or costume mistress could fix it, but that is unlikely. In all my years I have never seen a houndstooht fixed after that sever damage.
